Rabies Blood Test Requirements for Pets Leaving the UAE

Some countries won't accept a dog or cat from the UAE without a rabies antibody blood test. It has to be done in the right order and well ahead of the flight, so check the map below before you book anything.

What the test is

The rabies neutralising antibody titre test (RNATT), also called the FAVN or titre test, checks that your pet's rabies vaccine is working. Most countries require a result of at least 0.5 IU/ml.

How it's done

Your pet must be microchipped and vaccinated against rabies first. A vet then draws a blood sample, usually at least 30 days after vaccination, and sends it to an officially approved laboratory.

Why timing matters

Results take a few weeks, and some countries add a waiting period after the sample date. Australia, for example, requires 180 days. Starting late is the most common reason a move gets delayed.
